Ehud Barak will be the first foreign defence chief to meet with newly-confirmed US Secretary of Defence Chuck Hagel, with the two scheduled to hold face-to-face talks in Washington DC next week. The announcement may go some way to allay concerns that Hagel was not pro-Israel enough to be US Defense Secretary. Hagel critics had accused him of not being supportive enough of the Jewish state and too soft on Iran.
